Revenue Operations and Accounting Manager

Department: Operations Office

Location: Remote/Calgary preferred

Employment Type: Full-time

MakeShift is seeking a talented and driven Revenue Operations and Accounting Manager to help spearhead the next phase of our growth.

MakeShift is an award winning, people first workforce scheduling platform. Our software gives shift workers more control over their schedules and gives managers time back to focus on what really matters. We serve healthcare, retail, public sector, education, hospitality and recreation organizations, directly and through partners including ADP and SAP.

The Revenue Operations and Accounting Manager owns the path from signed contract to recognized revenue. You will run the monthly close, own revenue recognition and partner channel accounting for a multi currency SaaS business, and keep our contracts, CRM and books in agreement. You will also run the administration of our people operations. This is a pivotal role that works closely with the COO, Sales and Client Success, and gives leadership the accurate, timely numbers it runs the business on.

It suits someone who is an accountant first and a systems operator second: comfortable reading a subscription agreement, building a schedule that ties out, and working across a CRM and a general ledger with equal confidence.

Responsibilities

Accounting and Month End Close

  • Own the monthly close in QuickBooks Online, including journal entries, accruals, prepaids, reclassifications and the review of the P&L and balance sheet

  • Own revenue recognition: maintain deferred revenue schedules in USD and CAD and reconcile them to the general ledger each month

  • Manage customer invoicing, accounts receivable and collections

  • Calculate, record and reconcile partner channel revenue in line with partner agreements

  • Prepare payment runs and supporting documentation for executive approval

  • Validate and record quarterly commissions against compensation plans

  • Prepare budget to actual reporting and periodic reporting for external stakeholders

  • Prepare year end working papers and support our external accountants

Revenue Operations

  • Own the contract to cash process so that what is sold, invoiced and recognized always agree

  • Review customer contracts for accuracy against pricing, terms and approved templates, and maintain contract templates

  • Maintain accurate deal, account and contract data in HubSpot, and support the revenue team with properties, integrations and reporting

  • Manage usage based billing terms, renewals, price changes and cancellations in line with contract terms

  • Manage partner marketplace operations, including monthly reconciliation of partner reporting to our records

  • Produce the monthly revenue and KPI reporting used by leadership, including ARR, MRR, churn and partner revenue

  • Support sales planning, including quotas and compensation plan inputs

  • Support finance, investor and audit information requests with reconciled reports and documentation

People and Company Operations

  • Administer the HR information system, including employee records, time off and the annual holiday calendar

  • Coordinate employee onboarding and offboarding with hiring managers and IT

  • Coordinate performance review cycles, goal tracking and employee engagement surveys

  • Support the development and rollout of company policies and quarterly all hands meetings

  • Maintain organized, version controlled financial, legal and HR records

  • Perform day to day configuration in finance, revenue and HR tools. System ownership and administration sit with the COO and IT

Requirements

  • Five or more years in accounting or finance operations, including at least two in a SaaS or recurring revenue business

  • Hands on experience with deferred revenue and revenue recognition, multi currency books and month end close, ideally in QuickBooks Online

  • Able to read a subscription agreement and understand what it means for billing, minimums, renewals and cancellation

  • Experience with a CRM, preferably HubSpot, and comfort keeping CRM data and the books in agreement

  • Strong Excel or Google Sheets skills: lookups, pivots and schedules that tie out

  • High attention to detail and discretion with confidential financial and employee information

  • Self starter who is motivated to work independently in a remote environment

Perks of MakeShift

  • Fully remote work environment, allowing for flexibility and work life balance

  • Comprehensive benefits package.

  • Retirement savings plan with RRSP

  • Professional growth opportunities, including annual allowances for training and development.

  • Opportunity to contribute to ideas and have your input valued.
